Pre-First Class Impression

I’m in front of class room used for the first lecture. This morning was kind of great. I feel amazing! Yea, I’m Spiderman. I woke up at 2 am (you know my habit) and give some worship to Dad and read some Bible. I took a bath at half past 5 after unpack few of my things.
I walked to campus and now I’m tired already. Not my whole body though. Only both of my legs. Arrived at campus, I urged to find the class room for lectures today. I couldn’t find it at start. I panicked but there’s no one to be asked. I searched more and find it on the corner of the notification board. Occupy a tiny part of the board.
Next problem is to find the exact location of the classroom. Ubaya is so huge! I could just lost in this place! I found it after asked the cleaning service staff. Ubaya in the morning really lacks of living human. Btw, I found a thousand rupiahs and no one claim it. Lucky me. FYI, a thousand rupiahs equal a US dollar or so.
I’m waiting for the professor now. It’s Calculus class. But the professor already late for 20 minutes. And some people have left. It’s the first class of the first day and look what I get. LOL.. I must get used to this for these thing will occure often. Sent using Sony Ericsson Elm

New Life, More Passionate

Today, I’ll start a brand new era of my life as -once more- a student of University of Surabaya. Yay! Surely lots of things changed. Today I get my first class at 7 o’clock am. It’s an early time for sure, even too early. especially for someone like me who cannot sleep well at night. However, I have promised my self to change. So, this is the right time to start over.

I’ll start my activity at 5.15 am and then I think I’ll just walk to campus. FYI, the campus and the parking lot are not in the same area. They are 1.5 kilometers apart. So, the campus provided some shuttle buses to transport the students to and from campus. And the main reason I hate to bring my own bike is the buses are oftenly too crowded and takes too long to move. I’m afraid I’ll be late in my first day.

Just support me in this. thank you.. Oh, I forgot. I still get the mentoring job at Creative Home. So, after the class is over, I’m heading to West Surabaya (my campus is in the Eastern). Wow! It definitely will be a long journey. Very long journey..

BBC News – Super Hi-Vision 8K TV standard approved by UN agency

BBC News – Super Hi-Vision 8K TV standard approved by UN agency.

Yes. You are reading it right. New standard of HDTV, better call it Ultra High Definition, has been approved. Roughly, this resolution is 16 times of the current HD resolution (1080p or 1080i). The new Ultra HDTV resolution is at 7,680 by 4,320 pixels or as big as a 32 MP still image (while the 1080p and 1080i is only as big as 2 MP still image). The picture below is the only one camera capable of taking such a high resolution video and LG’s -lower- Ultra HDTV. The story from BBC can be found here. It’s the first ever Ultra HDTV released.

Just how advanced human’s technology has progressed. But after all, the highest Super HD camera is the human’s eye. the creation of God. No HD camera is capable of producing such a great experience of having a good sight, isn’t it? What do you think about these out-of-their-age technologies?

New Era, New Timeline, New Me

Past 3 months, I feel my fire is no more blazing hot. Instead, my fire is cooling down and slowly disappearing. And because of that, my relationship and connection with Dad seems getting farther and farther every day, instead of getting closer.
In past 3 months, I became rebellious toward Him. No more pray, no more worship, no more praise, and no gospel. And to make it even worse, no more church. Just how can a man live without Jesus Christ? The One and Only Living God.
I lived my life boring, stagnant, dry as desert, miserable, and pathetic. The so called the joy of internet didn’t even help at all. It became boring, time wasting, and non productive activity.
So today I do want to start to fix my heart, repair my life, re-live my life, and re-build my relationship with Dad.

HoN Client Instalation on Ubuntu

Well, today was kind of fun. Last night my download of HoN client finished (finally!). What a new experience for me. Downloading 1 gigabyte of data only using a relatively slow connection at 14 – 15 kilobyte per second. Epic! Fortunately, GNU/Linux distros (such as Ubuntu and Fedora) already has a built in great downloader called WGet. It is a powerful, effective, efficient text-based downloader.
Roughly, I spent a full day to download the file. The instalation ran quickly and smoothly. Found no problem with the instalation. Not only quick and smooth, the instalation also was perfect. I can get into the login screen with ease. All that left is the ID. I’ll review my playing experience when I get the ID.

Foreigner’s Appreciation on Manokwari, Indonesian Desktop Environment

Wall Photos.

The picture is  a screenshot from a Facebook Fanpage called Ubuntu Freaks! The Administrator asked the fan about their favorite desktop environment. While mine is KDE and Gnome Shell, this guy is shockingly said that his favorite is Manokwari.

Well, Manokwari indeed is a Desktop Environment. It’s a new DE based on Gnome Shell and looks like the Classic Gnome on Gnome 2. It’s made by Indonesian developers assembled as Indonesian Linux Movement Foundation and Blankon Developer as default DE for Blankon Linux. Yep, the name of the distro is Blankon. The release with Manokwari DE is the newest one called Rote, released on August, 17th 2012. It’s Indonesia’s Independence Day celebration.

Rote is the name of an island located on the southest part of Indonesia while Manokwari is the name of a city located in Irian Island, a big island located in eastern part of Indonesia.

I was shocked because a foreigner likes and appreciate the works of Indonesian developers of Blankon. But locally, Indonesian government doesn’t really support the community.  But thanks to the strong community of Linux, we can learn a lot of  new technologies and the appliance and the giving back to the community. This means Indonesia definitely has a place in the universe of Linux and Free and Open Source Software. We, Indonesians really got the skill. Keep the spirit up, guys!

Heroes of Newerth for Ubuntu

Currently, I’m downloading a client of HON game. Sure it’s not a new game. But for a Linux user, new games rarely and hardly found. So at first, I doubt about playing the game. And then I heard that HON developers originally build their client for Linux. I still doubt to play since my internet connection oftenly get disconnected by its self.

But today, I made up my mind and decided to download the client and install it. I want to play a good game on my Ubuntu (and Fedora too) machine! Too long I don’t play any heavy game. So this is my chance. And best of all, this game is free to play, unlike Defender Of The Ancient, a.k.a. DOTA (correct me if I’m wrong).

So not for too long I headed to HON’s homepage and read the minimum and recommended system requirements. As my notebook is capable of doing the recommended, I point my eyes on the instruction besides the download links. It said that I should create an ID first. I did. but then when I try to clarify my registration, the site told me that the creation is failed due to my location. I’m not giving up! Not that easy! I contacted my heavy gamer friend who played HON much. I asked him to make me a new ID and new email (GMail for sure 😀 as a preparation for my oncoming Android phone, Xperia P). And he will do it tonight.

I downloaded the installer file (pretty big. about 1 GB) with WGet, a text-based downloader with the option [-r] and [-c], so I can resume the download when my connection falls. FYI, downloading via WGet is much faster than the infamous and paid Internet Download Manager. 😀 But WGet is only available for Linux.

Sure my internet connection is sluggish. Only get 14.8 kB/s. But I still am lucky to have unlimited package THIS FAST after the Fair Usage Policy (the policy that will boost up the speed connection to ISP’s maximum speed and then limit the speed when the quota is over) is drained. I get 3 GB for the FUP and currently I have used around 4.6 GB. So the speed is drastically dropped. from the wonderful (at least in Indonesia) 300 kB/s to only maximum of 15 kB/s. But it could be much slower if I use othe ISP (I’m not mentioning any ISP so I think this is not a marketing, paid blogpost). With connection this fast (or rather said this slow) at 14.8 kB/s, I have to wait for (roughly) 17 – 19 hours to finish the download. If only the connection is stable. If not, you know the consequence. I’ll have to wait longer.

But I think it worths. Why? Because there are not so many good games providing their clients for Linux in general. Sure Electronic Arts (EA) already put two great games on Ubuntu Software Center. But it’s built for Ubuntu only (maybe for its derivatives as well. I don’t know). And Valve already announced that they will port (or they already did?) Left 4 Dead 2 to Ubuntu. And I heard, it ran much faster on Ubuntu than on Windows (LOL). As Windows-minded people refuses to switch to Linux due to Linux’s lack of good and great games, this is a good chance to play game again. And attract more people for using the Free and Open Source Softwares.

Ubuntu One

If you haven’t heard of Ubuntu One, it’s kind of similar to Dropbox. Except, its capacity is bigger than Dropbox (5 GB of Ubuntu One vs 2 GB of Dropbox). today, for the very first time, I activate Ubuntu One on my Ubuntu Precise (previously I activate it already on Fedora Beefy + I add Dropbox too). It’s so easy to use. just click the Ubuntu One icon on the Unity Launcher and let the wizard install it for you. the one time when you have to get involved during installation is when you have to enter your password in order to install this software (pretty standard for a Linux Distro, this is one of many big differences between Linux Distros and Windows Whatever).

After the installation, the wizard will ask you which folder to be synch-ed and done! You can also drag-and-drop files to Ubuntu One folder that the wizard created during the installation. Much like Dropbox. But with the power of Ubuntu and Canonical.

According to Ubuntu One’s official site (http://one.ubuntu.com), currently Ubuntu One is available not only on Linux, but also on Windows, Mac, iOS, and of course Ubuntu’s mobile cousin, Android.

Ubuntu One is fun to use. Moreover, Canonical got a promo. You can get additional 500 MB or so by referring Ubuntu One to your friends. Your storage can be upgraded up to 20 GB. Impressive eh? Besides, this promo also benefit both you and your friend. When your friend joins Ubuntu One by clicking on your refferal link, BOTH of you will get the additional 500 MB.

Missing My Dad

Okay, today is Sunday already in Indonesia. Idul Fitri is being celebrated by my moslem friends, brothers, and sisters. But you know what, behind these crowd, I feel lonely. I feel sad. I don’t meet, don’t talk, don’t share anything, don’t sing along with my Dad. even, in this Sunday, I don’t come to His home. how stupid I am, right? I can just enter His home, just talk with Him, just sing to praise Him, but I don’t do.

All because of I made some big sins. I feel that I’m too dirty to see the Holiest One. But starting today, I had promised Dad not to do such thingy and behave good. Toady also is the first day of my fasting week. I have something to ask from Dad.

I love You, Dad. I love You, Jesus.

Sony Xperia Giveaway

I just entered a competition of giveaway by Sony Mobile. The unit to be given is Xperia P, an Android smartphone specially built for summer. With a brand new technology called White Magic, Sony claimed that P’s screen still will highly readable under bright light, even direct sunlight.
Other P’s interesting features are 8MP camera with LED flash and Exmor sensor. The camera also able to record full HD 1080p video at 30 frame per second. What a monster..
Next ones are Bravia Engine to enhance the display and xLOUD to improve the sound quality. It also has 3.5 mm audio jack, Micro HDMI port, Micro SIM slot, and USB On The Go capability. According to GSMArena,
P is one of the quietest phones out there. But I think it doesn’t matter since my Elm also categorised as quiet. GSMArena also praise its solid build. Unibody stainless steel makes P quite impact resistance, but it’s not built for outdoor activities. So don’t expect P as robust as Xperia Go or Xperia Active.
Since it’s a Xperia, it brings along Android operating system. Too bad it only got Gingerbread. But it expected to get upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich on Q3.
Overall, P is a great phone. Positioned under the high end Xperia S and above the cheaper Xperia U, it has almost exact feature S has. Moreover, it’s a Sony. The camera and the sound must be great. Especially, with additional Exmor sensor and xLOUD technology. I have to win this phone!
